World Environment Day 2022 observed at IUBAT
The Department of Environmental Sciences and the Institute of SDG Studies (IISS) of IUBAT hosted a Seminar on ‘Role of Higher Education in Sustainable Environment’to mark the observation of World Environment Day 2022 on Sunday, 05 June 2022 at the IUBAT Conference Room. Dr. Syed Hafizur Rahman, Professor of the Department of Environmental Sciences, Jahangirnagar University was present as a guest of honor at the World Environment Day seminar.
IUBAT Vice Chancellor Prof. Abdur Rab presided over the function. Professor Ataur Rahman, Chairman, Department of Environmental Sciences, IUBAT welcomed the guest at the Seminar. IUBAT Treasurer Professor Selina Nargis made the thematic debut.
The keynote paper was presented by M Rehan Dastagir, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences, and two more research papers were presented by Assistant Professors Dr. Ferdous Ahmed and Dr. Saima Akter of the same department.
In 1991, Professor M Alimullah Miyan, an educationist, established IUBAT, the first non-government university in the country with the theme ‘An Environment Designed for Learning’. To mark the importance of the environment, Dr. Miyan declared the university a Green Campus in 2006. UI Green Metrics World Rankings has ranked IUBAT second in Bangladesh. The Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) on Education For Sustainable Development(ESD), an UN University recognized centre of IUBAT, has so far won ten awards for outstanding work and contributions to environmental protection. The university also has a Centre for Global Environmental Culture (CGEC) which has earned appreciation by UN agencies.
