Department of English and Modern Languages had their first public appearance by staging a drama – William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet on Wednesday, 11 March 2020 at the IUBAT Open Auditorium.
It was performed by students of the inaugural batch of BAENG program and directed by Md. Kawsar Uddin, Assistant Professor of the department. The event was preceded by the Certificate Awarding Ceremony of the Book Reading Competition, organized by the Department of English and Modern Languages in collaboration with the British Council. The drama was the first event of its kind in the cultural journey of the university.
The drama generated tremendous enthusiasm in the atmosphere. The audience was made up of about a thousand members of the students, a good number high-valued teachers, staff, alumni and community members. The Distinguished Treasurer and Director Administration Prof. Selina Nargis also enjoyed the show and praised the performance.
A team of passionate faculties of the Department of English and Modern Languages worked very hard together for weeks to make the staging successful, and on this grand day, along with the students of the only batch, they made it an evening to remember for everyone.
The clap still plays music to our ears!
