Symposium on-“Industry 4.0: Employers’ Expectations and Role of Higher Education

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Dr Rubana Huq said that replacing traditional education system, the young generation along with the educational system suited the digital industry revolution has to take the lead to meet the challenge of the fourth industrial revolution and tackle the challenges. She shared these words at the symposium on Industry 4.0: Employers’ Expectations and Role of Higher Education organized jointly by the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) and Bangladesh Society for Human Resource Management (BSHRM) on Wednesday, 29 January 2020.

Prof Dr Abdur Rab, Vice Chancellor, IUBAT presided over the symposium and Dr. Rubana Huq, President, BGMEA was the Chief Guest. Rtn M Mashequr Rahman Khan, President of BSHRM, Mr. M. Nayeem Hossin, President, Bangladesh Foreign Employment Council (BFEC) was the Guest of Honor. Prof Selina Nargis, Treasurer and Director, Administration of IUBAT welcomed the Chief Guest and Guest of Honor along with other participants of the symphosium. Mr Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed, Vice President, BSHRM was the Moderator of the occasion. Mr Abdullah Yousuf Khan, Coordinator, BBA Programme, IUBAT and Mr. Krishna Das, Assistant Professor, Computer Science & Engineering, IUBAT Spoke on the occasion.

Speakers highlighted that due to the fourth Industrial Revolution, the country will witness a drastic change in the labor sector in next 20 years. Many labor-intensive industries, including the garments will witness heavy job cuts. To tackle this, a combination of public and private initiatives must be made to create skilled workforce through quality training to stay tuned to fourth Industry Revolution.

IUBAT Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Abdur Robb said that artificial intelligence and robots will occupy the labor markets in the coming days because of the fourth industrial revolution. He also added that IUBAT is continuously updating its course curriculum and contents to produce efficient and skilled manpower to meet the challenges of the fourth Industrial Revolution. Prof. Rab further mentioned that acquiring sound technical knowledge is the pre-condition to face the technological challenges of 21st century and Bangladesh would be developed and self-reliant with proper application of technical knowledge.
