A Day Long Workshop on Spoken English Held at IUBAT

First time ever in the history of IUBAT, Department of English organized a “A Day Long Workshop on Spoken English” on 05 December 2019 for the recently completed HSC examinations at IUBAT campus.

The day long workshop commenced with the presence of Professor Dr. Abdur Rab, Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Hamida Akhtar Begum, Pro Vice Chancellor and Professor Selina Nargis, Treasurer and Director (Administration) of IUBAT. Also Dr. Momtazur Rahman, Chairman, ATM Sirajul Alom, Coordinator and Faculty members of the respective Department attended the program to facilitate the program. Participants enrolled for the workshop attended the workshop and learned effective strategies on how to speak in English.

The workshop was segmented into four different sessions referring to as “Identification of Barriers in the Way of Speaking English”, “Transforming Ideas into Words”, “Description of Images and Pictures” and “Feedback Session and Assessment”. Four teaching-learning sessions based upon essential basics of spoken English, natural pronunciation, fluency and accuracy and self-introduction were conducted in an interactive and participatory way.

Professor Nargis encouraged participants, “You (participants) should practice speaking English regularly which will make you a good speaker in English”.

Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdur Rab emphasized on the pronunciation and daily conversation with parents and friends. At his speech, he outlined some strategies and techniques so as to achieve fluency spoken English.

The workshop came to an end with giving out certificates, note pad, pen and lunch refreshments for the participants. Participants were enthusiastic in speaking English and attended all of the inclusive sessions cheerfully.
