1st Sustainability Olympiad-2024, IUBAT
Department of Environmental Science and IUBAT Institute of SDG Studies organized the 1st Sustainability Olympiad-2024 held in IUBAT on 27 February 2024. This is the First Sustainability Olympiad program in any educational institution in Bangladesh. Around 100 students participated from different colleges and beside this, 30 college principals attended in this event. Students appeared in double-round competitions to discuss and solve environmental challenges like, waste management, environmental pollution, climate change and sustainability practices. It was a great task for the students to highlight the pin points about the environmental problems in Bangladesh. Among them, many were outstanding in terms of their opinions for sustainable solutions. Top ten winners were chosen through a quiz and instant idea presentation. Finally, this Olympiad concluded by a grant prize giving ceremony. The top ten winners were awarded about BDT 30,000 including certificates. Additionally, the Champion, First Runner up and second Runner up were awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals. Dr. Susan Vize (Country Head, UNESCO, Bangladesh) was the Chief Guest in this ceremony where M A Hossain (Managing Director, JR Recycling Solutions Ltd.) was the special guest and AbulAlim (Windy Group) was the Guest of Honor. As a Guest Speaker Prof. Peggy Barlett, Emeritus Professor form Emory University, USA sent video speech in this occasion. Moreover, the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of IUBAT, Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab presided over the ceremony. The other speakers were Prof, Selina Nargis, Treasurer of IUBAT Prof Ataur Rahman, Chair, of Department of Environmental Science, Dr. Ferdous Ahmed and Dr. Rehan Dastagir. The quiz competition and instant presentation facilitated by Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam with the support of Dr. Sayma Akhter, Dr. Mariyam Sultana Marry and Dr. Rimana Islam Papry from the Department of Environmental Science of IUBAT. The organizers wish to spread this Sustainability Olympiad into the national level to create a sustainable society.
